Smell Of Petrol Inside My Car

  1. #1
I was driving my car this morning and it was fine, I went out about an hour ago put the blowers on to demist the windscreen and it was fine, I then put the blowers to blow through the vents and it smells of petrol really badly, my uncle had that with his car back in the day and petrol came through the vents and melted the dash, and I really dont want that to happen to me.
Any ideas of what this could be?
    Thanks Rick

My mrs just had the same thing, turned out to be the fuel filter leaking.

Where would I find the fuel filter bud?

Behind the nearside rear arch. It'll probably be fine but it's worth checking. Failing that, you really need to follow the fuel lines and check everything. More than likely it'll be from he fuel rail at your injectors.

Fuel lines are easy to access throughout the car really - under the rear sear is the tank access panels and you can see the top of the tank and pump wiring through the hole there. There is a possibility of a dodgy connection at the pump outlet but I've never seen it. Lines run through the car behind the passenger seat and are black plastic. Very unlikely to have an issue at that point.
As said above, it's more likely to be somewhere in the engine bay, especially around your fuel rail. check the Fuel Pressure regulator and injectors don't have any obvious leaks.
Fumes inside the car when the blower motor is on means the car is drawing smelly air in - so likely to be engine bay over any other area.
