rattle/knock on down rev

Wondering if anyone can give me some ideas on a recent problem : When I'm de-accelerating there is a knocking/rattling/tapping noise kinda sounds like the exhaust vibrating under the car.

But doesn't do it if I put my clutch in / in neutral when coasting, even reving it at a standstill at any RPM doesn't make the noise. Drives / selects gears as should - Im thinking diff? But last time it was a horrid grind / whirr, so not sure?

less than 8 month old driveshafts (pryed on em no play whatso ever), Only started doing it after a driving down a bumpy road!

    Any ideas ? Cheers

Edit: Just been out and it does do it in neutral just faint, alot worse when putting clutch in and out / when in gear, so must be drivetrain related.. bastard bumpy roads

Sure it's not your exhaust and/ or heat shields?

i had this the other day on my way to a mates, stopped at a set of lights and felt an horrendous shake/ratteling through my gearstick, went to set of and had one hell of a loud metal rattle at about 1500rpm on acceleration and deceleration.

turned out to be my exhaust rubber had snapped, quick call in to the nearest ats and few ziptipes and jobs a goodun' until i get a new rubber.

might not be the cause in your case but worth checking you exhaust.

forgot to add, the noise was coming from the engine bay which made me worry although it was the rear exhaust rubber that had gone.

I checked / wobbled the exhaust its solid. (i've got poly hangers on)

It doesnt do it when reved stood still, so must be a rotational noise, that gets worse with de-accelleration, so logic says the shaft or box

Will have to jack it up and have a poke about!

    Rear engine mount buggered?

Does the rattle get louder or more intense the faster you go? Check your wheel bolts are tight lol

Sounds like gearbox or maybe engine mounts sounds like the same problem I'm having and my gearbox is nackered.
