Saxo speedometer

    Hello

I bought my saxo a few months ago, its one of the first MK2 saxo's from 1999. Today i started looking into the ODBII protocol and CANBUS.

Then i started wondering if i could use a dashboard from a newer citroën and replace my old one, since they might have some standards that remained the same.

Im not trying to change my milage and/or sell my car soon, i just think that a dashboard like this one: http://www.cartronix.co.uk/siteimages/407_dash.jpg
    would look pretty sweet

So is the saxo speedometer compatible with any other speedometers?

are u sure a saxo from 1999 is obd2 compliant as im pretty sure they only did it from 2001 onwards before that is just eobd - could be wrong there!

at a guess i doubt it would be that easy to just change the clocks over, i would expect different connections straight off, also the wiring harness that connects to the back of it will have a few more features on a newer clock so it probably will be alot more complex.

if you could find out which wires were for which i still reckon it would be alot
more difficult than just wiring it together as the circuit board is full of components suited to the data recorded from that vehicles sensors and ecu!

    Only a 106 instrument cluster.

No. Only 3 plug ECU's are OBDII compliant.

The speedometer gets its feed directly from the sensor on the gear box. The ECU does not monitor road speed, in fact it doesn't even see the signal from the speed sensor.

    Is this a obdII plug?

Hmm, nobody has tried this before? replacing the instrument cluster?

That is an "OBD" plug, but that doesn't mean it has OBD-II.

Yes people have tried changing the clusters before, but only for fitting LCD displays for racing. Never for a cluster from another car because, simply, it's too much hassle for the gain.

Also, that LCD display in the middle of the 407 dash, I believe is ECU driven and won't work independently.
