annoying noise

   hi guys, was driving home yesterday and noticed a strange sound coming from
   the front end of my car, best way i can explain it sounds like a squeaky
   mattress.
   
   It only happens when traveling straight or left hand down, the squeaky-ness
   is in time with the wheel revolution.
   
   my first thought was CV joint but i thought they tended to click rather than
   make a springy creaky noise. this is my first saxo i've always had VW's
   so i'm all for learning new noises now, could this be the case ?
   
   also my thrust bearing is dying and its extremely difficult to get in gear and
   the gearbox whines, looking at picking up a reconditioned box and valeo
   clutch kit in the next couple of weeks but could this be the culprit too ? as i
   have heard all sorts of strange noises since the bearing started going.

   hi thanks for the reply, top mounts are in good shape as i only changed them
   recently, along with both struts as i picked the car up with a list of problems
   with the front end, i've done wishbones and changed both struts due to snapped spring, top mounts, drop links, and wheel bearings..
   
   Also jacked the car up on the front end and put in gear and done a lock to lock
   but the noise isn't there, seems to only happen when under load. it's frustrating.

   My gearbox as just started whining and is very annoying too.

   damn, seems to be a common problem with these mine whines in 1st 2nd and
   third more so on deceleration than accelerating. i'm pretty sure its the box as
   it whines when in gear even if i press the clutch in, soon as its coasting in neutral it goes away.

   Same as mine matey soon as I start slowing down and braking it gets worse but once the clutch is pressed it's not as bad hence why it's defanately a gearbox problem.

   I had an annoying whining noise in my VTR the other day.. Strange,,, it stopped right after I dropped the missus off at work.
