P0170 car running crap

  1. #1
Cars running terrible at idle and stinks of fuel!
Checked it on my code reader and it's p0170, having a guess at it being the lambda sensor ?

I'm currently not running a second lambda but don't think that affects fueling so must be the pre cat one ?

    It's a 3 plug vts btw
  2. #2
Yea p0170 is the front lambda sesor
  3. #3
Changed lambda now it's idling fine but Eml is flashing and still showing up code p0170
  4. #4
    Thinking it's coilpack now!
  5. #5
    Did you clear the code?
  6. #6
Yeah cleared the code before I started it up.
It's got all the symptoms of the coilpack being screwed!

I replaced the coilpack with a second hand one back in July so might buy a brand new one this time.

    £105 though haha

Could it be that it was a cheap lambda ?, was £45 from ECP

    Edit:

Now throwing up code p0300 which it also did when the coilpack was screwed before

The cars still being an arse! Swapped over the coilpack to another one and still ran the same swapped it back to the original one and now it's idling fine, pulls as it should and the Eml is no longer flashing but it's still showing p0170 and p0300! It's wierd as it no longer shows p0420 which is the cat one.

also wants to cut out when you start it!

fml I'm now at my wits end

could be a few things, MAP sensor? blocked fuel filter, blocked cat, vacuum hose leak?

how do the spark plugs look?
  10. #10
Yeah I gave the map sensor a clean, might try fuel filter tbh
I have no cat so won't be that

I've had a look and can't find any air leaks, not checked but I've got a set of 4 new ones in my cupboard

When the car misfires/overfuels it can sometimes damage the CAT,also have you also checked the plugs.

There's no cat to damage as i have a supersprint system and raceland mani
    Will check/change plugs tomorrow
