Harness fitting

Is it possible to fit a 4 point harness to a Sax without a roll cage? Im guessing not but most harnesses seem to be 4 point ones, could I mount them to the floor in the back, where the rear seat belts and plugs would go into??
    Cheers

Ive got a 4 point harness with no cage.

Rear 2 straps use the rear seatbelt bolts,
Right strap uses the front seatbelt bolt,
Left ive drilled a hole on the exhaurst tunnel and put a spreader plate in.

Would the left one not go in where the actual clip for the seatbelt is, like the clunky bit with the word press on it.. I have no idea what this part of a car is called.

No, decent harnesses need eyebolts for those. So you have to weld a mounting plate on the exhaust tunnel on which you can screw an eyebolt.

I found when mine was attached there it was to short and I couldent get the correct adjustment for a snug fit.

If you do fit harness and wish to use your car on the road don't forget you will have to retain original belts or find road rated harness to pass a MOT. Most aerospace or motorsport belts are not suitable on there own for road use.

Whilst the legality of that's completely true in reality I've never found an mot station that's failed a Motorsport harness (well, my schroth 6 point harnesses anyway).

See near bottom of page here regarding MOT, http://www.primamotorsport.com/lates...ews_prima.html

I've never had trouble with 6 points.

I looked in to it a little further and it's quite confusing.

The MOT as of this day test states = "An adult harness belt comprising a lap belt and shoulder straps bearing a British Standard or European approval marking (an upper case ’E’ or lower case ‘e’ and a number) is an acceptable alternative to any of the seat belt types listed."

VOSA issued this statement on road legal harnesses in 2009 = "Note 3 on page 3 of the MOT Inspection Manual Section 5.1 states that an adult (full) harness is acceptable if it has a British Standard Mark or an acceptable alternative.

C&U Regg 47 (4)(c)(i) states a that a belt can show a British Standard mark or a mark including the specification numbers, BS 3254: 1960 or BS3254art 1 1988 and we would accept a harness with these markings.

It is the responsibility of the vehicle presenter to prove the acceptability of any alternative. "

VOSA issued this statement on FIA harnesses in 2009 = "We have had sight of these documents and it is our opinion that they do not meet all the required standards. We approached FIA specifically to determine whether their specification has been accepted as an alternative to BS but received no response.

Ultimately DfT have responsibility for legislation and they may be able to advise on acceptable alternative markings. "

However on the flip side the IVA test as of 2010 allows = harnesses homologated to "FIA 8853 – 98"

Nice to see they make it nice and clear
