HELP what is this?!?!

   Just looked under my 106 GTi as something was hanging, like a white plug next to the fuel tank, couldnt see where it went so had a look on my VTR and whatever it attaches to is completely missing on the GTi and seems to of broken off! Cant find what it is, any ideas? and would it explain why my fuel consumption is awful?!
   
   Its the little white box thing on the top left of the fuel tank resting on the driveway... what is this? clips just next to fuel tank ?? as the white connector has snapped off on my 106 and the little box is nowhere to be seen!

   I believe its just the fuel tank breather...isnt a big deal as long as it isnt blocked up I'd say? Not 100% sure though

   Well it isnt there at all lol and the connector has snapped off!

   It's a non-return valve for the breather system. It has a ball bearing in the white bit so if you roll the car fuel doesn't piss out the breather.
   It's not essential. Unless you roll the car of course.

   I have a similar problem... When I fill my tank to the brim fuel starts coming out of the pipe an I don't know where it goes? Or if it's supposed to connect to something
