Important! : Turning over but not firing?

    Hi guys,

Joined a while ago and thought it'd come to use...until now I've been pretty lucky even with doing the head gasket on my own!

Something has got me really stumped however and that is I left my car parked on a kerb on Thursday night, came out on Friday to go out, key in the ignition and the immobiliser code in ('97 1.1X), turned the key and the fuel pump had primed itself and the immobiliser went green and nothing. The engine turns over fine, but nothing else (battery is now dead so I've disconnected it). The engine ignition and injection warning light is staying on in the dash which is completely abnormal. Prior to Friday this has never happened.
I have had a look and I'm praying to god that this isn't a case of the ECU locking itself - can it do that?
Someone also suggested the crank sensor which is a massive sigh of relief but if it is the crank sensor then surely this would be a case of mistiming or does the crank sensor have something to do with fuelling? It turns over but no pressing the accelerator does anything...fuel isn't being let in to the engine by the sounds of it.

    HELP PLEASE!!!

If it's the crank sensor, it should fire up with a bump start but cut out as soon as you pull the clutch in.

Ok, I'll try bumping it...diagnose whether it is the crank sensor. Any other reasons for it to not start?

Just got back from trying to bump start it and after much realisation that I'm very unfit, the car wouldn't start...so crank sensor or not?

Guys, I've tried bumping and all sorts. There is a very faint smell of petrol but not much to explain the warning light being on. Sparks are fine so it's looking like a fuel issue, new fuel filter? That still wouldn't explain the pump priming and the warning light being on...nor does it explain it just not going! It's at home so a garage is a no go.

I had this problem back in november. trtied replacing sensors and everything. tried immobiliser etc. turned out to be my ecu and had to pay like 180quid for it to be refurbished

Does the ecu need refurbing or replacing? It turns over and the fuel pump primes but no fuel is getting to the injector?

GOOD NEWS! Replacing the Crankshaft Sensor has righted it - I'd advise anyone having this issue to change that first and then try it. Let me know if you have a similar issue and you've tried the crankshaft sensor.

Ah, a sensor heheh. Are you experiencing some shite weather at the moment.

It would seem so...Swindon isn't immune to rain or wind
