Important! : Battery light on please help !!

My battery light is on my car and have not got a clue what it could be . The alternator has been changed and the starter has been stripped and cleaned / greased and put back on . positive and negative battery leads removed from battery and chassis and cleaned and the battery light still remains on the dash. Have had trouble with it starting but it does not turn over just completly dead. not left for any more than 8 hours from last time it was running. have had it runnng fine all day and then switch of for 2 minutes then wont start completly dead no turn over. Battery light flickers when revs build up but alternator is charging 14.1v on idle and battery is 12.6v when switched off.

any help would be great .

Mine used to flicker on and off if I put my foot down and set off quick but just stopped one time and never done it again. Typical French cars lol

^This is genuine advice...Saxos stuff like this lol youll get a light on, few days later, itll go and you wont see it again...battery light can flicker though if the car hasnt been driven much, once its being driven more often it will probs go off, otherwise battery or alternator are the first places to start

Take it for a longer drive to charge your battery up, could be that simple, but the battery light just means the car is running off the battery not the alternator!

^^^ this. If you only do short trips, the battery won't have a chance to reach full charge. It's more obvious during winter, have a look at "cold crank amps".

ah yes its all good saying its a saxo they all do it .... but they dont . I do a 20 - 30 round trip to work everyday I am pretty sure the battery is being charged enough. The main problem is it runs all day then switch off for 2 minutes and then it wont start. I dont think the battery would fully drain in 2 minutes. when running the battery reads 14.1 v that tells me the alternator is charging it .

volts don't mean much. You can have 14 volts and half an amp, and it won't be enough to start the car. Check your battery again

Also check the wiring for the alternator.
