loss of power

ok cars had replacement fuel pump fitted, primes everytime you turn key, been serviced so plugs and fuel filter changed, but still getting the slight loss of power and the jolting juddering symptoms.
it was a lot worse before fuel pump as it would lose power and shake and jolt the whole car violently before regaining normal functions for a while???

    whats next to check??

Only thing I can think of is an intermittent injector problem, try swapping the injectors around.

Could it be a map sensor?

And how easy are injectors to get to? And test?

I would not like to say with the map sensor,as regards the injectors they`re easy to remove. You need to remove the injector rail then unclip each injector.Someone like blackie or gandii would know better as regards testing them mate, but to do them properly checking the flow rate etc they need professionally testing.

Ok I'll wait for my Haynes too arrive and see how to remove injectors.

Its really easy, remove any breather pipework for brake vacuum or vapour canister. This Can be removed or pushed out of the way depending on the inlet design you have. Off with the coil pack (2 bolts), off with the throttle cable holder (1 bolt) and unhitch cable from the throttle butterfly. Off with the two bolts that secure the fuel rail to the head and then pull, then out come the injectors. Be careful pulling them out so you dont lose the rubber seals and pintel caps. Injectors are secured to the rail by a metal clip each.

As regards to testing them properly, its not something you can do at home really but you could always try cleaning them with some brake cleaner and if you feel brave enough (its not that bad really) turn the engine with the injectors spraying against some card and see if they all fire off or if ones substancially weaker but as your problem comes and goes its unlikely to be that.
If you can identify which cylinder is causing the problem, then swap a "good" injector to that position from another one. Personally if it were me i'd invest or borrow a different set and see how you get on with those

So as a second opinion, would you day it's a faulty injector or another problem totally?

Read a few threads bout it poss being temp sensor, or lambda or map sensor?

Temp sensor usually affects cold starting from what i`ve heard mate.

could be a lose connection to the fuel pump
  10. #10
pull the rail out and see if they injectors pulse (spray fuel)
  11. #11
So pull apart and then turn engine on?

What caused the faulty fuel pump? Running out of fuel at some point? Could be a dodgy injector as above - might have some shit in it that the filter didn't grab.

No idea I just swapped it out for a known working one to rule it out really, trouble is I have now run out of time off to do it all. So if I was to buy a known working set of injectors and put them on and run Car if problem goes away it was that? But till I get my Haynes back can't see how to remove yet

I'm sure there's going to be a guide on here to do it. You can get the injectors out of a vtr in under ten minutes and that includes having a cuppa first!
Ecu temp sensors are cheap try that next if this doesn't fix it
