#2if they havent been messing with the tappets, check they've put the baffle on correctly with the right spacers. When doing this check theres oil up there too
-
#3If I mess with it, I may not seal it down correctly which was why they replaced it? If I open oil cap check there's oil on top first?
-
#4Can you see the baffle under the cover? Does it move?
-
#5Whats your oil level like?As low oil can result in a tapping noisy(low oil pressure in the engine)
-
#6Its not difficult to do to be honest, just make sure the seals sits on the cover correctly and sits down on the head ok then it wont leak. Only 2 bolts to take it off on an 8v. Also dont believe the hype: you can remove the rocker cover and get it to reseal easily enough its only when the gasket is perished do they not seal well
-
#7Well as I said it's just come out garage from full service so would hope it's full oil so I'm guessing they've messed up something might drive it round tommorrow and see em bout it
-
#8If its any consolation mine came back from having a new head gasket complete with a new rocker seal & it was pissing oil from the seal. They put the baffle plate on upside down.Quote:Well as I said it's just come out garage from full service so would hope it's full oil so I'm guessing they've messed up something might drive it round tommorrow and see em bout it

#9full of oil, baffle seems on well, so drove it back garage and they said oh it may have a bent baffle, so i said well only you have touched that part so it must have been you that bent it hopefully get car back later after they've sorted it
-
#10theres only one baffle plate though, you'd have to handle it rough as fuck to bend it. Doesnt sound like this garage know what they are doing
-
#11That's not even half of it. The other problems I'm Having with car are down to them too, I pay for a full service every year, and pay a fair price bout 100-150 and for that only oil is replaced I pay on top for plugs, oil filter and such. Then find our today, they don't replace the fuel filter!!!! Pissed off ain't the word Car runs like shit cos they don't replace fuel filter in a full service
-
#12Thats about a normal price for a service, but the fact they dont swap the fuel filter would concern me to the point of thinking 'what if they haven't actually checked the car over?'... it is a full service afterall.Quote:That's not even half of it. The old mans Jag recently went in for a service (I wont touch it), Admit-ably it was a lot more expensive than yours, but its a Jag. They checked everything, painted the calipers, cleaned all the underside, wheel arches etc... They even greased all the little bits like the door hinges!
I'd find a new place to service your car, or have a go at doing it yourself, Its really not difficult
-
#13I am. My old garage used to do all that too and was 160 for service. Now I used these and seems they are total morons. When I go pick my car up later I'm gonna explode at em. They said my baffle was bent when he took it off which was bollox, then said it was broke so it's been welded up again bollox. And I think I'm within my rights to not pay for things that they broke? And now trying say fitting a fuel filter will be 40 quid
-
#14fuel filter is £5 and five minutes to swap, sod paying garage monkeys to do that
-
#15Seriously take the cam cover off and take a look. No way would the cover even seat down if it was bent enough to break in half or remotely close to that. They are ripping you offQuote:I am. #16I know why I'm gonna go mad when I get down there. More I look over car more faults I'm finding
-
#17you should diy it really, plugs and filters aren't rocket science, changing the oil is a piece of piss and all you have to do is to know where to recycle the oil. If you pay a 150 for that, you're definitely going to the wrong place.
And rocker cover gasket is a 5 minute job. -
#18seriously, you could do all those jobs in one hour no sweat
Plugs - £6 ( I got 4 genuine NGK BKR6EZ for 6 quid delivered from ebay)
Oil - £15-20 for semi synth 10w40 of your favourite brand
fuel filter - £5-7
Air filter - tenner if its a paper element?
Then if you really want add in other things say gearbox oil, PAS fluid, brake fluid, coolant. Its still going to be way less than £150 and possibly 2/3 hours work for a novice absolute max. -
#19fiver for an air filter from any autoparts, about 20 if you fancy some green cotton.
-
#20Gave up using them many moons ago, makes more sense to use a cotton gauze filter and clean it
-
#21well update is i kicked off had ''baffle sorted'' and fuel filter changed now original problem on car is sorted, so injectors, fuel pump were all a waste of money!!!
as said next time im gonna try most myself, but as i aint got tools up here yet may just go different garage,as it was a piss take from them. one i got my house sorted and have my tools up here its diy time and just drop it to garages for mot n work i cant do -
#22So it was fuel filter all along?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
#23Yeap I was under impression it had been changed in service but no so no wonder my car was running like shit
-
#24If only you were still down this way. Could've given you a hand with this stuff.
At least filter seems to have cured it. -
#25If I was still southern would have done it as tools all still there or to my normal garage where they look after my lil car
-
#26Without seeing a car none of us can give a definite diagnosis, one rule of thumb though always replace the cheapest things first.Quote:well update is i kicked off had ''baffle sorted'' and fuel filter changed now original problem on car is sorted, so injectors, fuel pump were all a waste of money!!!
