3 Thermostats Not Working?!?!

    Hey guys,

    So a couple months back the thermostat went in my car when I was doing a couple hundred mile trip, needless to say it didn't end well. Anyway I have a donor saxo 1.1 car and a donor pug 1.1 engine, the saxo had a new thermostat a couple months back too if I recall.

    Anyway I took the thermostats out both and tested them and neither seems to be opening, it this just my bad luck or am I looking for the wrong thing?

    The test I'm doing is with a kettle and checking to see if the black bit pokes out the mechanism.

    Should I just bite the bullet and get a new thermostat as it's only a tenner or am I doing something wrong?

    Put it in a pan of water and bring it to the boil on the hob that's the best way to test it. Did the stuck stat cause a hgf?

    Yeah did do, none opened still. Dammit!!!

    3 duff ones is bad luck however some thermostat designs wont open unless they are contained in their housing (metal parts of the stat have to "press" against the housing to ensure they open) but saxo thermostats arent usually like this and are the more conventional type

    I wouldn't risk it tbh, for a £10 like you said, a lot of work swapping them over and rebreeding the system just to find out it don't work...
