Key light flashing anyone solve this?

Hi, i am a mechanic but not spent much time with imobilizers.
i bought a saxo vtr , the key light on the dash comes on for 2 seconds then starts flashing, and obviously is imobilized and will not start.

i have tried changing the transponder around ignition barrel and new chip. (new chip in key and transponder match)

that did not solve anything, i have checked for earth faults, main engine earth to gearbox, replaced imobiliser/fuel pump relay, does anyone have any idea what its likely to be? thanks

have to make sure the plastic surround around the barrel is positioned perfect . I had same fault when I got my ecu unlocked and the car still wouldnt start a d it was the plastic surround that wasnt position right. This may not be the problem but worth checking anyway. not sure what else it could be. ECU maybe locked itself?

tried checking position, no joy, i have purchased a ecu which has been performance chipped (only adding a few bhp) but apparently it would have been unlocked to be chipped, is that correct?

still no joy with this imobliliser fault

No the ecu at fault, got a bad earth a dodgey wire somewhere.

    what EXACTLY have you replaced

if you want to use a new key... you need the key..the ecu and the immobiliser box from up the passenger side of the dash

if you add an unlocked ecu..you MUST unplug the immobiliser box as you will just lock the new ecu otherwise

i have bought a igntion and key and transponder and imobiliser box all from another vtr.

i did not get an ecu with it,

ok so i need to get a ignition and key and transponder, imobiliser box and ecu yes? one question.

the box i have under passenger side of dash has two sockets for multiplugs, where as the box that got sent with the key and transponder is a lot lighter and has one big multiplug fitment socket. im guessing the two socket type is an alarm type , can some one help me out here.

would this sort me out? but the box is different on this one

right...the stuff in the link is what you need

the box in the link is the immobiliser box..the little black one

so if youve been sent otherwise then its NOT the immob...and with no ecu then it wont work anyway as its all code matched

but yeah..stuff in the link should work long as your car runs same ecu eg a 3plug..what year is your car

Ok I am am a newbie but had the problem with one of our Saxos after doing some work on it and disconnecting the ECU.

tried many suggestions with no luck

found a post on the internet which suggested the following, I quote

The car is in safe30 mode (dont know what that means) turn on the ignition fully and leave on for 30 minutes without trying to start the car, (I left it 40 minutes) then turn off and on again and the car will start

I tried it and the immobiliser light went off and the car started and ran normally.

    Worth a try.

immobiliser box IS the transponder unit, the bit around the ignition barrel is just a generic aerial which is not coded, you also have a chip in the key.

the ecu, transponder unit and chip are matched sets, so you ust get ALL matching parts, or nothing.

if you use any ecu which is "unlocked" you MUST unplug the transponder box before trying it, as they will end up locked unless professionally unlocked.

thanks for all replies basically over research i see you have two choices ,
buy a complete set coded together or buy an unlocked ecu

i have decided to buy an unlocked ecu , because there is no gaurentee how long another second hand set will last,

when i get the unlocked ecu, im guessing i disconect battery first, then disconect the transponder, then just plug in ecu, and turn the ignition on?

    thanks

did you try my suggestion above, it seems over simple but it worked for me, before you buy any more stuff put it all back as it was and try it, it will cost nothing so you have nothing to lose
