few questions from newbie

   hi guys im new here, i just have a few questions, i bought my vtr this weekend and it has a slight wining noise coming from the engine, sounds like its behind the steering wheel lol but in the engine, ive been told they have electric power steering but the pump in bottom right corner but the rack is near where im on about... any clues?
   
   also im going to upload some pics, would some one be able to tell me what engine its, either late or older, and what bhp it is, so i know for when i need to get bits lol

   The whining noise could be the cam belt either over tensioned,or the tensioner itself worn out.

   I was going to say alternator is a better bet but you need to try and narrow it down. How many miles on it and what's the history like as in when was the cam belt done?

   Could also be the alternator yes.

   it has 82,000 miles on,
   
   full history upto 68,000
   
   new clutch and gear box fitted in 2010 but only covered 11,000 miles from then til now, cambelt done at 62,000 miles
   
   but when i open bonnet up i cant here the sound as much as when im in the car..
   
   i dont know what engine it is so im going to try and post a pic up tomoz..
   
   and i only paid £420 for it
   
   i took it for a check and only needs, off side bottom arm, gear box mount has play, and pads at back and rear shock has slight misting...

   Chances are if it's history up to 60k then the cam belts not been done and there due at 80k or every ten years. Unless you've got proof it's been done if get it sorted.

   Is there proof of the belt being done at 62k?

   hi yes i have a receipt thats about it, i got done same time as clutch and gearbox etc..
