Car revving by itself

    I had a new battery installed 3 weeks ago in my 1.6 vtr, and after coming out of work after ~5hrs my battery was completely dead, not even a tug-tug-tug-tug when turning the ignition.
    Came back to it today with a jump starter pack, everytime I would start it up the revs would build to 4000 by itself. No sign of the peddle being stuck or anything.
    could anyone help me out?

    Its where the battery has gone dead,take it for a drive & the ecu should settle down & your revs will be normal.

    i have same prob changed battery and its idle is 4000 changed icv and its still at 4000 car has been sat up for months wile doing my driving test now i wanna get my mot done i cant get it to idle was fine last week just dont get it ?

    Ignition on/off 6 times without starting the car,try that.

    my car did this randomly, it was the throttle cable got stuck.
