Exhaust problems?

  1. #1
    Morning

Just drove to work this morning and my exhaust is making a racket...

I have a supersprint straight through exhaust and normally its a bit raspy, but this morning its even more so. Opened the bonnet, no extra noise coming from there. LOADS of extra noise coming from the back end.

When i accelerate, its to the point of the back window vibrating.

Im thinking broken gasket or a hole in the exhaust?

    Thoughts?

    thanks

Put your hand over the tail pipe and it will make it easier to find if there is leak. It will blow loudly because you're forcing the gases out of the leak instead of the tail pipe!
  3. #3
yeah get a mate to put hand over exhaust while your underneath to find where exhaust fumes are coming out....
  4. #4
Found the problem. Centre section has literally snapped in two on the way home... Awful. Pipe from the backbox towards the front. What do I need to replace to fix it?
  5. #5
Anyone have any advice or web links to what I need?

The pipe from the back box to the middle of the car has snapped. What do I need?
  6. #6
If its snapped clean through it would be easier just to replace it, if you fix it no doubt it will snap again (As I found out)
  7. #7
Either fit a new pipe,or depending on where it`s snapped get it welded.
  8. #8
Yeah I want to replace it but no idea what I'm looking for?

Have a look at these, depends on how much you want to spend really
  10. #10
Yeah that's far too much for what I'm looking to spend. And they look different to mine? My exhaust is in three pieces. Pipe with silencer from cat to middle, pipe from middle to back box (snapped) then obviously the back box.

I'm not sure on the make of my exhaust, I'm sure it's a supersprint...

Thats the supersprint one with a silencer, there are loads of others about that are similar though so it could be any really. The brand will dictate the price you pay.

(It doesn't matter if there is no spit in the centre, unless you want it in two parts of course)
  12. #12
I have a straight through supersprint centre section here for sale?

Not that far from you either

I also have a cheaper straight through centre I believe is a piper for sale
  13. #13
The problems getting to you mate, don't have anyway to...

    You got pics and prices?
  14. #14
    I can courier?

Possible piper is £35, supersprint is £55.

Think courier will be extra £15.

No pics of the supersprint but it's the same as the other centre which is below

  15. #15
It's the longer pipe I need mate. Not the decay pipe. Is that what you mean or are you talking about the decat pipe?
  16. #16
There both just straight through centre pipes
  17. #17
So both the same as that bottom pipe?

    What's the diameter on them?
  18. #18
They slot together and go from manifold to back box. Straight through.

    Both 2 1/4" I believe
  19. #19
imagine you'll need the catback section. full pipe will decat (obv). Mines been on a year, i'll give it all this year before it cracks. I'd go stainless next.

  20. #20
I've got a 4-1 mani then another pipe that attaches to that. That pipes fine.

The pipe from the middle of the car to the backbox is the one that's snapped.

Are you saying it's £55 for both pipes from mani to back box?

    What's that in mm?

    Thats what im after
  22. #22
    EBay item number:280263537537
It goes from manifold straight to back box and it will out last car.
  23. #23
Not sure that will fit as it says 1.4 + VTR
  24. #24
Sportex centre pipes are small bore so will restrict power.

The new Supersprint pipes are all stainless steel now.

  25. #25
Small bore? that ones 50mm diameter.

    thats what i have.

Thats far too much for me to be paying, especially since i only need the longer backbox pipe

I just need it fixed ASAP tbh.

Is that not what I am selling?

Yeah i know you did, but im sure gash is selling both that pipe AND the decat pipe...

Am i correct? and i needed to know the diameter in mm as my exhaust is 50mm i believe.
  30. #30
IMO, go to euro parts and but a phase 2 1.1 midpipe for £11.50 or whatever they are these days.
Its smaller diametere so will restrict slightly at the higher revs, but on the upside its super cheap and you may even notice a bit of a gain in low/midrange.

Sure you can buy that section separate.,i did the other year.
  32. #32
You can from Kam i think, im on about Gashman selling his! haha
  33. #33
Ahhhh wtf do I need to buy!!! Gash you got a photo of yours?

Also can I fit a cat with any of these pipes and backboxes?
  34. #34
    *sigh* lol

the link you posted - yes.
  35. #35
The link I posted, they've just messaged me saying it will only fit a standard cat pipe and a standard sized backbox.

What's the size of the vts exhaust standard?

    Photo already posted.
  37. #37
You've posted one? where is it?

I need to know the diameter in mm
  38. #38
is there any difference on the VTS exhaust between the Mk2 on 2000 reg and those afterwards?
  39. #39
  40. #40
Cheers man, think that's the one I'm after so it goes over the back box. Does that come in one or two parts?
  41. #41
you need to remember you need an olive join to join to your cat. A sleeve fitment wont fit.
  42. #42
    What's an olive join? :/

I've currently got a decat on ATM
  43. #43
I've just googled it, think I have one on the car already? I'm sure the super sprint or cat slides into the other part. The centre pipe goes over the pipe of the backbox and slides on and clamps down, even though the end is flaired
  44. #44
    Naw.

    You're making this difficult man.

Olive join you need this clamp
    http://www.autocarparts4u.co.uk/img/...6-thickbox.jpg

    Sleeve join is

    http://www.motorspeed.com/sitepix/pr...aust-clamp.jpg

it's self explanitary if you pull your exhaust apart

Yours will be a olive join as the cat has a olive join to the centre section as does the centre section to the backbox.
  45. #45
    Sorry man, I'm useless!!!

Ok, yeah I've got them, although rather corroded. So I'll be replacing them as well!

    Cheers for the help fellas.

Gash, I'm thinking Saturday I'll be able to come get the pipe? That alright with you? Drop me a pm.
  46. #46
Saturdays fine with me mate. You definitely want the supersprint yeah?
  47. #47
What size exhaust gasket will i need?

Is it standard size for a VTS with a supersprint pipe?
