Found a thread in the end. It looks like when the inlet cam notch for the pulley to locate on is turned to 7 oclock, the nearest cam lobes to the pulley face to 9 oclock. So ive put it back together and sealed it up with that cam on the inlet side. Fingers crossed

Do they not have ex and in on them?

    Nope unfortunately not

    Oh dear,bugger that.

The arsehole will be twitching like a rabbits nose when it comes to firing her up

Haha too right. Sounds like theyre the right way round. Ill be turning it over by hand first like but still if it runs like a bag of nails I'll know that not everything you read on the net is true!

Well ive put the cambelt on and timed up by finding tdc from the piston nearest the cambelt, then locked the 2 cam pulleys with bolts. Then tightened the belt and when slowly turning the engine by hand there is contact between piston and valve somewhere. I was told that is how to time the engine. Is that correct? And if not then I guess that I followed some shit advice and the cams are the wrong way round.

Can anyone confirm for me which is the inlet and which is exhaust? I read tgat when the notch for the pulley on the inlet cam is at 7oclock the nearest lobes point to 9 oclock. Is that definately the inlet cam?

I have some pictures that may help...

The lobes relevant to each piston must be the opposite (180*) of each other. The pictures show the position they should be lock at when the bottom end is locked!

Thats excellent thanks mate. So the first 2 lobes are facing away from each other when locked, tge inlet faces to the rear of the car and the exhaust lobes face to the front of the car? Thats hiw mine are at the moment.
