Straight through pipes and CAT - MOT question

  1. #1
    Afternoon all,

    Just a quick question.

I currently have a Supersprint exhaust system, and am buying a second had straight through pipe on sat (Old one snapped)

    Believe its this one...

Question is, can i take the front part off and fit a normal CAT for mot time, or are the measurements different?

    cheers

You will need an original cat and centre section. Basically between the manifold downpipe to the backbox.

Ah, so I can't just take the front part of this out and fit a cat?

Could I not do it with a sleeve?

As i said yday. The one gashman posted was a sleeve fitment. You needed an olive join.

Ahhhh now I get it haha well I'll check it on sat. I need the pipe anyway. I'll just buy a second hand cat and exhaust for MOT

Sleeve fits, there's enough pipe sticking past the olive I that's how I made my exhaust for my 1.5D after the cat.

Can you give me all the info to do it Martin, please?

I don't know what the diameter is on the supersprint

You'll have to take it off (or do it on the car?) and line it up to the cat and see, if it slots over the bit protruding the olive, then get some paste on it and whack a clamp on

Not very helpful of me, I know, but I didn't take any pictures of mine

Ha that's fine mate, I'm sure I can work it out! The super sprint is 50mm I believe so isn't that the same size as a vts standard?

Sure if you cut the olive end off. Lol.

    Otherwise, no it would not.

hmmmmmmmm I'm thinking about this wrong from the wrong side

That "olive" on the cat is a bell mouth, the olive is on the centre section and it has pipe protruding. So of course you're right (ya bastard).

OP would need a piece of standard centre section with olive to clamp the supersprint to.

Well the cat on my 1.5d has no olive or bell mouth so ha! but my GTi does.
