Nissan Micra MIL light on

Sorry this isn't saxo related but my sisters 51 plate Nissan Micra has just displayed A MIL light.

The car has only done 17,000 miles and just had a service not long ago. The car was owned originally by my Granddad (who bought it from new back in 2001) but sadly passed away a few months ago and my sister has taken ownership of it. The car has been sat for a few months in his garage and when he owned it about a year ago he put the battery terminals on the wrong way causing the whole fusebox to blow. This was shortly replaced by Nissan.

The engine oil is fine and clean, that car has only been driven recent to take it from his garage to a auto shop where they fitted new battery as it was not holding its charge, then back home where it has been sat for two days prior to seeing the light. We dont believe the light appeared when taking it home the petrol has been sat in the car for a few months too.

What could be causing this in case anyone has owned one and seen it happen to them?

    Many Thanks

its always handy owning an obdi reader, pretty much diagnose and fix it within minuets.

could be anything... without having it read theres no way to tell, blowing the entire fuse-box more than likely wouldn't have harmed anything to spur that EML light on - so 99% id say its nothing electronic, if the fuel has been in the car for a few years, maby its slightly "off"- if so.. it would flag up an EML for either lean or rich in this case.

2001 is this the 'bug eyed' micra.
Or the one that was built in 1996?

If it's the newer model the electrics are made by Renault and are really naff.
Take it to a garage and get it plugged in.
    I bet
    Lambda sensor bank 1

Ofcourse if it's not misfiring or anything

Yeah its the bug eyed on from 2001, i did have an obd2 scan adapter some were but misplaced it. Apart from that fault it had been driven by him from new only 17,000 miles. He use to take it to the local shop and back the car is pristine, new tires perfect engine oil starts instant so was surprised to see the MIL light based on its condition.

The one we had in at work would have a flat spot intermittently.
    Driven by a retired lady.
    Only done 20 k
Kept coming up with lambda sensor changed the lambda twice.
    Still the same.
Check all wiring. That was fine.
We put it down to a possible ecu fault.
In the end we recommended it went back to Nissan.

Maybe an Italian tune up would help?
