after changing the cambelt on my french automobile, ive noticed a new sound coming from the engine, its not the alternator as ive taken the belt and the bottom pulley off and ran it to see, but it sounds like the tensioner, the only thing is that its brand new? ive also changed the water pump! there is a whirring sound and i think thats the cambelt bedding in, but am i right in thinking thats its too tight? i could turn the cambelt 90 degrees with a bit of effort, shall i just take the cam covers off and turn the engine over to see where its coming from? proper drills me

#2It'll be too tight if its whining.
I had a nightmare with mine for weeks on end. It sounded horrendous. Turned out to be the water pump/too tight of belt and slight play in tensioner. All got binned and replaced again, sounds as it should since it got replaced over 3 weeks ago. Not saying thats your problem but i would start with getting someone to slackening the belt some more.
Belts dont need bedding in they work from 0 miles -
#3Safe as fuck, when I got time I'll slacken the belt off as small as a small mans willy and see if the girlfriend (whine) shuts up lol (:
