Fuel level gauge problem

Hi, i have problem with Fuel level gauge.

Always show 1/2 tank. But then fuel low (about 5l) warning light came on.

So I think not fuel sensor fault.

Maybe have idea how to fix?

take the sender unit out mate(watch out for fuel leakin out the pipes and pump), plug it back in, switch on ignition, move the float and see what it reads
    hope this helps

The resistor on the float breaks down after a while.

How easy is it to change the sender?
I don't trust my fuel gauge as far as I can throw it.

Pop the rear seats up take off the circular disc & it`s in there mate, saxo fuel gauges aren`t reliable anyway.

I've had my orange low fuel light come on when going uphill. There's been at least a 1/4 tank of fuel in too. Saxo fuel gauges are notoriously unreliable.

Handy to know in case it dies completely, my Desire wasn't as bad as this Vtr I have now, so what do you do just reach down and unplug it ?
