Hi all I recently brought a saxo vtr 03 and it had an aftermarket steering wheel onit, so the air bag light was on and cabe to old air bag had been cut, was advisd by my friendly MOT bloke that if I took the dials out and covered bulb over i.e bluetak lol then would pass MOT. I have done this and all good but NOW my speedo and mph are not working atall. ive disconnected battery for couple of mins and tried but still not working. should I leave disconnected longer??.... any suggestions? cheers all

I thought that covering the bulb was a automatic fail now?

Would have been better to solder a 2.2ohm resistor in between the cut wires.

To reset ECU you want to disconnect it for a good few hours. I did mine for around 4 hours.

Also check you have pulled any connections loose?

well spoke to a back street MOT bloke who ive booked it in with and he said if do this then it will go through MOT I hope so anyway, but just hoping that dials will start working again left it disconnected now til morning. MOT Tuesday will find out!

You've obviously broke a wire or knocked sonething I'd take dials back out and check everything's plugged in, and your mot man sounds like a dodgey guy.

Mate it's a failure if the light is missing

apparently its only an advisory if no air bag light on start up, as there are no other airbags in the car they cant test any. apparently! I will find out on Tuesday and let you know :/

Thought it was a failure but good luck with it mate

under the center console under the carpet is the airbag ecu, unplug it and the light appears and goes out

also if there is no airbag it cant be tested... same as if a rear seatbelt is broken, remove the rear seats, no seats, seatbelts cant be tested

why mine goes through every year its a straight(ish) MOT as well...
