well i jacked the car up and rocked both front wheels and there solid.

Does it do it on rollover whilst stationary? Only moving? Clutch or brakes change the noise? Revs or speed make the noise change at all?
  6. #6
im almost certain that the noise comes from the front, it seems to be worse when turning right and not as bad when turning left and seems worse when doing about 30 mph in 4th gear, it dosent make the noise when stationary and the noise seems to change slightly when changing speed.

If you start coasting does the sound change?

Just to make sure it's not on the engine end.

Does being in a different gear change the noise? 3rd or 5th at 30?

I cant really remember, i dont think changing gears changes the noise. i dont think it is the engine either it just dosent feel as if the noise is coming from there.

If the change of engine speed and gears and clutch etc don't change the noise you can rule those out, does riding the brakes change the noise? If so, give the handbrake a gentle tug and see if that changes the noise

Wheel bearing by the sounds of it. They can fuck without causing play

    Cv joint?
  12. #12
I would say bearing too going Off the information
  13. #13
Mot is in 5 or 6 weeks, guess i will get it done then if i dont get a new car by then.
  14. #14
mind end up being cheaper to a get a new car lmao
  15. #15
Just went for a drive and noticed, when i turn left the noise goes when im coasting the noise is still there, the noise goes when im doing under 10mph and i sometimes get a clunk noise going over speed bumps.
  16. #16
Clunk could be ball joint on a wishbone, I have that problem and if steering affects it then yes, it's a wheel bearing
  17. #17
if this is a cv joint that needs replacing anyone know how much it will cost to have done?
  18. #18
New driveshaft is cheaper, check J&R driveshafts. Less than £30 for one and piece of piss to change.

i jacked the car up to inspect the cv joint myself and i didnt see any spilts in it and there was no sign of it leaking i did notice that it was popped in but guess that dosent matter? also the gearbox is drenched in oil. i rocked the wheel side to side and span it was solid and didnt grind at all so any other ideas? thanks

Gearbox drenched in oil may indicate that you need a new driveshaft seal.

is that the cause of the knocking then?
  22. #22
Well it certainly won't help the cv joint mate.
