It's really simple!! You have to:

    - take off the drive shaft's nut
    - take off the "ball" wich is at the lower (with the triangle)
    - pull to you all the arm to you
    - extract the drive shaft from the hub
    - extract the drive shaft from the gearbox

With the new drive shaft, it's the same but in reverse At the same time, change the shaft seal ring

Off course, you need to drain the gearbox before

How am I meant to tell which type of drive shaft to order with out dismantling it? There's a straight one and a tapered one int there!

In France we can use our "gray card" (the official paper which defines who is the owner of the vehicule) and with the VIN number, Citroën can find all references.

I can give you the references of each drive shaft but I must to know if you have ABS system or not

Nah I don't have abs! Where can I find the vin number

You can find in the engine bay, just to the right of the plastic which cover the cockpit filter.

On this photo, it's on the bar at the top of the admission (16v), just to the right of the plastic between the too holes:

    It's erased on the photo.

You can also find it in the trunk, there is a metal plate with some informations. The VIN number is on it too

Yeah isn't there a way to check if it's a tapered or a straight drives shaft rather than checking using vin number?

Take wheel off, look at the nut that holds driveshaft on, if its a slotted shaft IIRC its a small nut that holds the driveshaft to the hub

tapered Iirc is a bigger nut.

That's an easier way of finding out, take a picture of the nut that secures the shaft, could post it and we would tell you.

Oh yes, I have forgotten this detail

Like TrustMortorsport says, check the nut or take it off and pull the strut to you just to get out the drive shaft from the hub

Make sure you get the appropriate driveshaft for your car and make sure you torque the driveshaft nut correctly otherwise you will munch through a wheel bearing in a month or so.
