They've been checked tho when my gearbox was replaced what else could it be? Just one knock then it goes buddy

probably your suspension spring clicking a bit or 2 as you steer, quite common.

As said it's your cv joint,basically where it's worn & your putting it under stress by having the steering on lock that's why you get the noise.It's easier to replace the driveshaft,or if it's not too bad & either the boot has split or the clip has come off then replace these & re-pack with grease mate.

You've given us the symptoms of what are a 90% chance of being a worn cv joint,other than changing the driveshaft & then seeing if the noise has gone I can't offer you any further advice.Other than letting a garage give a verdict.
A drive shaft is £30 max, a garage would probably change you that in labour to check it out. If you don't think it's the shaft then you've no choice to go to a mechanic. As Stevo said it's more than likely the cv.
