Not Starting, Revving to 40,000, cutting out.. ? Help!

  1. #1
The problems starting used to be intermittent, however now it has become almost every day- unless I rev it like mad while starting.

! I did find the main earth cable had not been reconnected but this is sorted now and the problems starting are still exactly the same!

The revving - used to happen occasionally just while at lights - only ever up to 10,000 and only very very rarely; so I thought idle control needed replacing but wasn't ever a big issue. Now, while I am driving the car it is just revving and not up and down it is just getting more and more until it reaches about 40,000 and stays there until I turn the engine off out of pure rage

Are they connected?, has anyone else had this, and can anyone help me find out what it is... Thankyou

Ok.. There's just so many things it could be :/ if it's something electrical it will probably be a bitch to find what's wrong too

Ok hopefully it'll just be that then.... Thankyou all

Sounds more like an inlet leak. Spray some wd40 all around the inlet and see if the revs change.

So I took it to Citroen and they did a diagnostic test and nothing came up. They cleaned the idle control valve and put it back together... Next couple of days it seemed better then back to how it was again but this time my central locking is playing up too and stereo flickering on and off every so often..

I had a similar issue, it seemed to be after I over charged the battery

Maybe try another battery if you can borrow one, see if that solves the problem

    Get your alternator tested.
