Wilwoods / Hi-specs

  1. #1
    Quick question:

do these fit under standard VTS wheels?

looking for a set that will fit under my road wheels as pro races will be fine for track.

    thanks

Wilwoods do. Not sure about hi specs.

For confirmation go on to Prickles thread he has just fitted a set of Wilwoods.

Wilwoods fitted with my winter VTS wheels

what size were the wilwoods you had simon? and did you use standard vts hoses or gti6 ones?
  5. #5
Wilwoods fit under VTS wheels just fine. They use a 288mm disc. You'll need new hoses as the calipers use an american thread - Rally Design or HEL can supply.

    Yep. Without spacers.

The brembo's need spacers mind - 20mm iirc.

If you go Wilwoods I'd highly recommend Performance Friction Pads for track. About £65 delivered from Demon Thieves and are really good.

thanks, and finally.. what master cylinder do you guys recommend.. going from standard with gti6 brakes so want the best feel but not to abrupt.

    23mm?

    Oh that's another question..

in wilwoods and hi-specs can you get ds2500s / yellow stuffs etc is one easier for pads then the other? more range etc

John is running with stock MS on the vts and described them as "good" - slightly increased travel over standard but lots of feel, no bite. If you're used to gti6 I suspect you'll not see any difference (my opinion only)

I just phoned Kev (KAM) and he sorted CL pads for me for the hi-specs. IIRC, they're the same as a volvo 240 pad or something totally random lol

Standard m/c with the pedal adjusted a thread or 2. Its decent.pedal travel is fine too. Its not a sharp ping but it stops you very well. Liam is also using the standard m/c too on his track VTS.

Obviously if you wanted you could change the m/c but i honestly dont see the need but mines a daily.

Excellent.. thanks for the info guys

Volvo 240 I have heard that before

ill try it with the standard master then seen if its what I want

I run DS2500s in mine. They were roughly the same price as EBC Yellows when I bought them, so thought I'd see what all the fuss was about. Seems like they've shot up in price since - see here.

I'd probably just go for Yellows in future - always found them nice and consistent under hard track use. Everyone seems to have different preferences as far as pads go though.

Ive gone for yellowstuff pads. Not used them yet but heard good things by a few people. Around £60 iirc
  20. #20
i have been using yellow stuffs for years now. less brake dust and better feel compared to mintex 1144s and 1155s I have used.

anyone know what size disc the hi-specs are? as wilwood 285mm x 21mm Vented

    285mm x 21mm

Hi-Spec do a lightweight caliper to run with 266mm discs that will fit under 14" rallye steels

    Hi-Spec Ultralite 4 piston caliper.

are you following me around the forum? lol and hmm i wonder if they would fit under a vtr wheel with a spacer? and do you know if they will then be able to run capably under 15's?

I'm following you around your house. Your curtains are gay btw.

I'm having a cup of tea and you're the only bugger posting! I've got no idea, Liam_ off of here told me about them, there's a thread on moaners about em I think, many £££'s like. I'd imagine they'd be very capable under 15s. In all honesty, apart from the look and weight, I can't really see the advantage of running anything other than citroen 266's, MuZ uses them with DS2500's and decent discs, and they're very very good on track. We've never had fade yet, and we're hard on them.

In fact, I've just bought a set to use on my car rather than the Brembo's I have in the garage.

well i have the std calipers and discs just rc6 pads and it stops no problems with no fade for up to 25 mins hard beating... just need to future proof the car abit now
