help. knocking front passenger side wheel when braking

    Hi all

Im new here. But wanted some expert advice. Used to own a pug 306 96 spinnaker a few yrs ago.
Just bought a little run around for my.partner -
citroen saxo 1.4i SX auto 1999.

Passed mot with seller on tuesday before we collected it. No advisories.

    Drove 45 miles home fine.

Yesterday i was in passenger seat and heard knocking when slowing and braking.

Garage checked up on ramps to inspect plus on the runner treadmill thing and drove it on quick test run. They seem to think its the following.

    Warped disc knocking when braking
New discs n pads req as rust residue from short standing gone with drive home.

They adv 150 cost plus vat for 2x new discs n pads as must fit together they advise.

    Does this sound likely?
    Is the cost reasonable?
Should MOT have picked it up?
    Is it safe to drive?
Is there anything else i should ask to look for?

New to this and dont want to get ripped off.

    Any advice gratefully received.

Aye you mechanically minded at all? Changing the discs and pads yourself is one of the easiest jobs around, honestly!

Skins a bit steep to me but a garage hasn't done my brakes in many years so I'm about £50 all in.

I had an issue like yours and it occurs still from time to time, I thought it was a problem with the discs so I changed them which solved the issue, for a few days then it came back.

The cause of my issue was a build up of rust between the disc and the wheel hub. To solve out I take the brake disc off and thoroughly brush all the rust off to bring it back to shiny metal on the hub and the brake disc, both sides, add a little copper grease on the hub face and I'm away!

Does it should likely, it's very probable.

Cost reasonable, ask others, not sure what it costs.

Should mot pick it up, if it's a slight passenger vibration probably not to be honest.

It's it safe to drive, I should think so, warped disc and my other suggestion are both safe, just try to get out sorted.

Anything else to look for, if it's just when you're breaking it's either warped disc, my other suggestion or something else I don't know about! Others can add input!

Hi. Tgx for that. Wouldnt have a clue bout changing myself.
Prev owner put TSW alloys on it so not sure if they damaged then. Will def ask bout cleaning rust between hub and disc too.

    Process of elimination.
    Starting with discs and pads.
if still not fixed it, post back again.

    Whereabouts are you dude?

There may be a mechanically minded member local to you who could pop and have a look. If you were near me I'd do the discs and pads for you, it's like a 30 minute job.

I'd also be inclined to check for a loose/damaged anti rattle spring, causing the brake pad to knock on the disc.
