Bonnet flying open

  1. #1
So a common problem for Saxos is the bonnet flying open on motorways, i always get so paranoid that this will happen to me. Is there a way of eliminating this risk WITHOUT using bonnet pins as they look shit and tacky.
  2. #2
But they do the job...your car would look shitter with a smashed windscreen and dented roof cos the bonnet has flown open...try looking at aero catches, they look a lot smarter I think

never had it happen to me even tho I left bonnet on latch then shot up motorway after checking a fault, pulled on hard shoulder after doing 70mph and seeing bonnet wobble

It happened to mine about two weeks after I bought it.

Talked to a few mechanics looking for quotes and they said its a fairly common problem because the safety catch dries out over time and stops working

cant see how they look shit and tacky, they are there to do a job. Aerocatches look good but cost more. You could probably make up some sort of latching system yourself and hide it but there really isnt much point.
Its a common problem on clios and they had a recall to fix it, not sure saxos are known for it to be honest.

Yup. You could always attach a strap and clip to the underside of the bonnet and clip it onto the subframe for peace of mind, I did it to mine after my bonnet flipped and its way cheaper the aero catches.

Saxos dont have a sub frame but I get what you are on about lol. Bit of a ballache though each time you want to open the bonnet cause on a saxo thats a 90% of the time
  10. #10
haha yeah you know what I mean frame/subframe/slam panel. Yeah it can be a pain but I used one of those mountain Carabiner clips, so not too bad

big problem with mk2s. if you dont like bonnet pins there are these new really discreet push pin things that demon tweeks are pushing. but aerocatches look nails so

Exactly this, possibly down to poor maintenance ie not keeping the bonnet catch mech lubricated & not checking the car over every so often.
  13. #13
Well its happened to 2 of my friends and seen it a few times on here lol Actually quite like the look of those aero catches. Might invest in some
  14. #14
Tie a piece of rope to the underside of the bonnet and put a bolt on the bottom of the slam panel underneath
  15. #15
just gaffer tape it shut down the edges?

Since when was the bonnet flying up a "common" problem? Think I've seen like 3 or something on the forum in about 5 years...

I think it's more common when you're some sort of vagina who ignores a rusted up dried out bonnet catch rather than greasing it.

    I properly chortled there

If you maintain your car well, keeping the catch greased.
Checking that the mechanism is working correctly.
    You shouldn't have a problem.

I can remember someone on here forgetting to close their aerocatches then driving off.
Which resulted in bonnet flying up.... Doh!

Don't know how bonnet pins can look tacky, they are there to do a job and that's all.

Yes do away with the bonnet altogether.
