Speedo sensor wiring

This goes out to everyone who has a standalone ECU fitted
How have you maintained the electronic speedo without the standard ECU?
i have wired it in as per haynes manual.
pin 1 = switched live (12v)
pin 2 = earth
pin 3 = signal to dash, pin 8 on white block (through engine multiplug)

but its not working
i have tested the signal wire from sensor to dash and all good.
i have tried some spare dials and a spare speedo sensor. still no luck

any ideas?

From what i know the speedometer is the wire Blue 2 on the speedo wiring.
