Standard exhaust problems/ Low profile jack recommendations

  1. #1
    Morning all,

Having some trouble with the standard exhaust ive fitted.

It seems to be blowing from the section between the cat and the silencer. (Water coming out and rumbling/vibrating) am i missing a gasket? as i just placed it on with an olive clamp?

Or can i use some exhaust gum to bung it up?

    Any ideas?

Also i need recommendations for a low profile jack to get under the car.

    any help appreciated!

    cheers

Also, my lambda sensor is broken.

Will this replace it? (Pre cat in manifold)

You're taking the risk of being crushed under.

Yeah i know mate... doing my head in!

It seems all fine, but dont have pics (Cars to low to get a pic, but it all looks fine.)

No, no mesh on the cat to silencer join. I just slid the silencer in and olive clamped it, that no good?

Yeah ive got a new fitting kit (Didnt use the bolts at the front though with springs as the fitting on the mani has threads and theres a bolt stuck in there.)

How am i taking a risk of being crushed? i need a low profile jack to prop it up to get the axle stands under???

Maybe i didnt word the sentence correct initially! lol

It should just be an olive join if you are talking about the centre section to rear silencer join. They can be a bit of a pain to get lined up properly.

Try loosening off the downpipe join and re-do the centre section to silencer. This will give you more room to adjust it and get it lined up properly. Once you've done that tighten up the downpipe join and check it.

You shouldn't get any leaks at all but if there is any, a little bit of putty will sort it out.

Ok, i'll try that, cheers mate.

Might need a new centre rubber as well. mine seems a bit stretched now...

great tip i learnt when trying to fit a trolley jack under a car that was lowered,

drive onto two blocks of wood. then the jack will fit under.

ah you have axle stands, all good

don't do like I don't remember exactly who done it on here, but here goes: dude got under his car, jack let go and he got stuck under. Kids going about started taking the piss out of him instead of help.

I've never seen an O ring on the centre section to backbox join?

I think the OP is making things slightly confusing by calling the centre section the cat. Unless of course he's talking about the downpipe to centre section. Which does require an O ring.

No, im talking about the cat to the silencer.

    So you have: Manifold/Cat/Silencer/backbox

Its the join between the cat and the silencer on a standard exhaust where it slides into the cat and is fixed together with an olive clamp.
