Engine cranking, sparking, but ....

After a big rebuild, went to start the mrs 106 GTi today. Cranks nicely, and the spark plugs are firing ok, fuel pump is priming. Not firing though. Inertia switch definitely depressed. Cam timing was triple checked before the covers went back on.

Im sure the fuel lines are the right way round as one is angled and thats the only way youre getting the inner one on.

Am I right in thinking that if the spark plugs are firing the ecu isnt locked and the crank sensor is ok? The ecu etc is all original to the car so Im pretty certain it shouldnt have locked, just want to rule out as many things as possible.

When reassembling eveerything, I noticed one of the pins was bent on the 3-pin green connector for the injector loom. When I took the spark plugs out after trying to start it they didnt smell at all of petrol: that was despite me cranking it without the coil pack connected to circulate the oil, but wih the injectors still connected.

In short, the car ran perfectly beforehand (well, blown head gasket but otherwise fine) so Im assuming the problem to be the injector loom (razor of Occam and all that). Anyone think of anything else that might cause those symptoms though?

    Cheers

Are the Injectors firing mate? Mine did something similar until I changed them one was dud. Wouldn't even run on three either for some reason

The car was running fine until it was stripped down. All parts stored carefully and in clean cupboards so assume the injectors themselves would be ok. But if youve had something similar it doss seem to be pointing towards injectors/loom

Sounds like the aren't firing to me, bung some easy start through it see if it's tries to go. Or better yet flip the rail out and crank it over with the injectors still in. see if they fire

    first things first

whip the fuel pipes off in the bay and stick them in a bottle.. crank it over and see if youve got fuel to the rail.. see which one is the feed and put it where it should go

if youve got fuel.. pull the injectors out and try firing them over into a oil drip try or something.. if no fuel then you know your injectors arent releasing

it sounds like its gonna be your injector loom
