Take it on track mate. My VTS likes to do 9mpg on the nurburgring and about 15mpg at Silverstone.

    magic car then...
i would have expected the mpg to be a lot lower seeing as though you'll be pushing out nearly max power

I don't live in Germany, but my car's fucked so I've left it out there. Want to go pick it up this weekend.

Time wise no one should time on the ring for two reasons, timing always makes you take risks and crash. I'd happily time my laps at Silverstone but not at the ring. Most of the regulars there agree with this policy.

The second reason that pretty much everyone I spoke to lies about there times. I've over taken one bloke who claimed HIS lap was an 8:30 from bridge to gantry. I'd be chuffeed with an 8:30 in an M3 let alone a Saxo!

But if you have to ask my mate Ed timed my first lap at 10:04 with one yellow flag, therefor my best on the day was probably around the 9:30 mark

Well yes, its hard to measure as I was doing it off the gadge but it didn't overly hammer the millage I got out of that tank. The cars hit 142mph on GPS before so it wasn't quite at flat chat. I guess the fact it was just maintaining a set speed, as opposed to going up and down all the time helped
  17. #17
that sounds gud, im comparing to jeremy clarksons 10 minute lap in a deisel jag lol. are there any restrictions for racing on the ring?
  18. #18
I GET 180 MILES TO £20 IN TOWN AND GENERAL DRIVING. in my vts

Its a public road with no speed limit so no racing!

Also it is rumoured that JC never hit 10 mins in the S type. All of the sideways stuff was Sabine driving too
  20. #20
My current Boss is called Sabine, i knew id heard the name somewhere before, that must be it!
Been bugging me for months, finally i can sleep
  21. #21

Nutty woman. Much faster than the blokes driving the taxis too, and more sideways
  22. #22
my 2001 vtr returned 51 mpg on its last tank of optimax,

approx 60- 70 % of motorway driving at peak torque 3000rpm or - 68 mph roughly

been recently serviced, air, oil and fuel filters changed oil change, and new plugs,,,

best mpg ive ever had from it, well chuffed! was something like 426 miles to 38 litres
  23. #23
    smacked it mate

    well done.

Cams and a map, good exhaust etc. 142 was recorded on a slight downhill slope. With a hell of a run up. and the rear seats folded flat.

50? It aint a diesel, I really doubt it could get that, although just my opinion
  28. #28
65mph dead on the motorway may well see 50mpg, 55 certainly would
  29. #29
Well not many people do 65 on the motorway, what about sitting at 80?
  30. #30
piss to get 50mpg. i know i could get higher out of it easy
Mine it rated as getting 65mpg but i've 94mpg on some of my extreme runs.

beyond 65mph the fuel consumption begins to drop fairly badly.

infact there is some comment going around about driving at 80 is 30% less efficient than driving at 70... or something like that. it comes about because of a number of things. the drag increases exponentially, as does the power required to maintain that speed - therefore more fuel needed.
  31. #31
...oh and because 5th gear on the VTR box is an overdrive gear
  32. #32
ha, my 1.1 drinks it for fun. costs me 30-40 a week in petrol n really i only drive to and from work (10 mins away) n driving here and there at weekends but i dont do that much that it should cost me that

y shud the seats matter ?
  34. #34
sorry dude it's a in running joke.

There was a post up agggggeees about a corsa 1.2 driver making out that if he flattened the seats it would reduce consumption and increase acceleration.

I am getting 39.1MPG around town etc, about 330 mile to 36 litres of fuel.

I once got 415 miles from 38 litres, thats 270 of motorway and rest town driving, thats impressive.
