battery light

About 3 weeks ago I Came to start the car and the battery light was on and I had no power steering. So I turned the car off and it started up fine with no battery light and the power steering was back...so I just ignored it.
Came to start the car today and the battery light came on with no power steering again, so I turned Off and tried to restart the car several times but failed, so I waited 5 minutes and It finally started again with no problems...

Does anyone know what the problem could be? Does it sound like the alternator belt needs changing?

Check the alternator connections first, then when you do get it running get a free test done on the charging system at halfrauds.it could your alternator packing up.

Only just had this checked, and my alternator and battery are fine. Still getting a problem where i start the car, battery light lights up, no power steering and car stalls if i press accelerator. After i turn off and start up again it starts fine... getting kind of annoying.

What's the condition of the alternator drivebelt like?

Mate you've got the dredded problem.

I can't remember what it's called but I've had it - Search on here / google for 'Saxo no power steering battery light on no heating' and hopefully you'll find the threads.

When this first started happening to me I put the lights on and it seemed to fix it.

Other times it didn't, so turn off wait a couple of mins and turn on and it's all fine again.

Luckily I only had this happen about 4/5 times but the battery light was on - and my alternator was going. Which seems to have been the problem, (now replaced all is fine)

However some saxo's seem to do it whenever they want for no reason, electrical gremlin solved by cutting some wires near your ignition I believe. - Like fuck was I going to attempt that though..
