Bubbly paint

So whats the best way to sort this mess?

My plan so far is to remove the aerial, sand it all down, rust treat it, and apply filler if need be.

My question comes to the paint, if possible I would like it to look OEM, but like most, i'm on a budget and a professional respray isn't really on the cards.

    Whats my options?

Aerial off down to bare metal, coat with phosperic acid then let a bodyshop spray the whole roof.or rub down affected area coat with the acid, then vinyl wrap the roof.

I was thinking of Vinyl wrapping the roof, its seems the easier/cheaper option. Is vinyl wrap easy enough to do yourself?

Never done it myself, but like most things take your time and you'll be fine mate

depends how much time/effort/money you wanna spend

thats chronic rot.. the only way to do it properly is cut the rotten piece out and weld a new bit in..bearing in mind the front endge is gonna be bonded to the windscreen

and any painting you do to it will be at eye level and reflect the light in any light.. so itll have to be decent job

the best bet is it leave it unless youre gonna do it right..9/10 stuff like this ends up looking much worse than it did before unless its done right

yep, windscreen out job. If you don't itll come back straight away. Its not bubbly paint its rust.

When the windscreens out the aperture might be fucked aswell. its a bigger job than it looks

The plan is to sand it right down as much as possible, rust treat it, small amount of filler and vinyl wrap it. At the end of the day its going to be a track car so I'm not overly bothered about it, I would just like to sort it as quickly and cheaply as possible.

I'm well aware that the rust is more than likely going to come straight back though.

Agreed to do it properly yes,but my line of thinking is it's a saxo is it really worth spending a fortune on it?

Exactly this, if it was my daily then I would do it properly. But for what i'm using it for then I will go with the cheaper option. I appreciate everyones information though.

if you sand that rust back.. itll just make a big hole that will leak water in badly

filling it with filler wont work.. its just filler and filler aint water proof, so all youll end up with is something that looks worse, leaks more, and youve had to wrap it..wrapping it wont seal the water out either

i know you wanna make it look better..but genuinely mate, when i said 9/10 times stuff like this ends up worse after you play with it, i wasnt joking, if you touch that youre gonna make a big hole in the roof..if you dont wanna sort it properly id really say just leave it.. wrap on top.. atm its probably still fairly sealed (as sealed as that can be).. if you poke at it..bran flakes will fall out lol

easiest cheapest way if youre gonna wrap it.. sand/grind it back.. get the scabs away.. get a fresh piece of metal and shape it to the inside... tiger seal it in place..or weld if you can.. fibreglass over the top and rub it back to shape then wrap.. but i wouldnt recommend that.. and the seam where it meets the screen will be a cunt to sort/seal

On the cheap you're looking at cutting the area out and welding a new plate in and shaping it to match the roof, then either a full spray of the roof or the front and blend it in towards the back. It will need paint for vinyl wrap, pretty sure that stuff doesn't stick to filler
