Saxo VTS oil leak

  1. #1
Just looked at a really nice posi blue VTS, that is perfect, idles fine, no rust etc, but there is a small oil leak around the rocker cover, of which my dad (who is a lot better with engines than me) said was a gasket gone. Am I right in saying this is the rubber part round the rocker cover and how expensive/hard is it to replace?
    Thanks for any help

Very easy, but seal it with high temp silicone.

Ok so this shouldn't put me off? The car runs absolutely fine and its only leaking around the rubber seals. Do you need specialist tools or is it something I could do in my garage?

You can either try to reseal it or just grind a small bit of the tab (where the bolt goes) off so it sits tighter.

Ok, sounds good, glad it doesn't sound like a head gasket problem

No no nothing to do with the headgasket mate,
A very simple and easy fix and pretty sure every 16v goes through this at some point!
Just take em off and grind those lugs off, and use high temp silicone and jobs a good'un

I first hand experienced this with mine today, it seems most people have a problem with the J4 cam covers leaking. Most people either grind the lugs off so the cam cover sits flush against the head or upgrade to JP4 covers which actually have a serviceable gasket unlike the metal J4 covers.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I can sleep easy now

Get some JP4 covers to resolve the issue once per all,it uses a rubber seal that you can simply replace if needed.

are JP4 covers a straight swap? (JP4 is C2 VTS right?)

Off other cars too, 206, 307 etc

Don't rule out a leaking oil filler cap either.

I'll check that as well Thanks!

Right, could be the oil cap too,if you don't want to get the JP4 covers which have a different oil cap you can buy a new version for the J4,it has a better design and won't leak.
