power steering

    So my power steering is playing up, its making a whining noise when its working and when its not it becomes VERY stiff, even more than a car with no power steering!. However it does this in intervals of a few minutes working then nothing for half hour.. I've bled the system and replaced the fluid, I think the pumps a bit naf! Any ideas people...

    Ideally you need to replace the pump. You can give it a few taps with a hammer but it's only a temp fix.

    OK I have a go tommorow at the pump as I've got another saxo, i`ll try swapping them over..

    As above. Few whacks with a hammer on the main body will get you out of a pinch but you can only do that so many times.

    Time for a new pump. A second hand one is about £30 and tbh, it's worth just replacing again if that also fails. They're so easy to change.
