short number plate rules/ laws Help Please!

   Hi
   I have trolled the internet for hours trying to find the laws or rules on shortening number plates I am sure it is legal if you leave 11mm before the first letter and after the last letter
   
   (EXAMPLE- off Google)
   
   But if someone could find the DVLA laws or something similar so I could print out to keep in the car so if I get a jobs worth traffic officer, I can be confident I am on the right side of the law.

   Ye but you need 33mm between the 6 and the V.

   11mm between letters, 33mm between groups, 11mm border
