Air induction kit question

This is a bit of a douche question but would an aftermarket air induction kit reduce fuel consumption or increase it? I read that it's meant to reduce it but my brother fitted one and his fuel consumption increased compared to before he fitted one. Thanks peeps.

If the air filter is doing its job properly then fuel consumption should be reduced.

However some people like to fit cone filters at the back of the engine which suffer from heat soak and can reduce the engines performance and increase fuel consumption.

It all depends on where the filter is placed,ie if it's too close to a heat source then your fuel consumption will increase.in general if routed correctly then fuel consumption will be normal, although people like the induction note so will floor the car.

    Here is mine:

It's not the best place next to the manifold but it's also not the worst I've seen! I'm also planning a cold air feed to it at some point but I can't see an air filter making a noticeable difference to fuel consumption really but as already said, it makes the car sound better so people tend to drive it a bit harder and that's be why you use more fuel!
