Direct fire or wasted spark?

  1. #1
i have the coil pack ignition on my engine, is this setup a direct fire or a wasted spark?
  2. #2
    Both.

I guess you mean is it sequential or wasted spark, its the latter, theres no cam sensor.
  3. #3
i thinks thats what i mean, does each cylinder have a coil of its own or two cylinders per coil?
  4. #4
    2 per coil i think
  5. #5
was thinking that myself, just wanted to make sure. would it be possible to change the coilpack for a seperate coil with HT leads?
  6. #6
You can convert to the 8v setup, there are also a few ford set-ups that you can use. There is no real reason unless you are running big power though.
  7. #7
the reason for the change is that there is an ECU that i want to put in, but it can drive the coils because of the way the coils are made, for this ecu i need a twin dis with separate coils.... also for easy access to the plugs for maintainance.
  8. #8
    Cant ^
  9. #9
    Which ECU is it?
  10. #10
either the Haltech platinum sprint 500, or else the Haltech platinum sport 1000
  11. #11
nit naff that they need to use an ignition module like old ecu's, but they'll run the o.e coils fine with one wired up, why did you go for the Haltech?
  12. #12
I find that the haltech has better support. most other ECUS ive looked at either didnt support multi-point injection of didnt have enough expandibilty for my likings.
  13. #13
what type of igniton module would be suitable? i know Haltech sells them, but id like to know of any alternative?
  14. #14
Cant imagine a standard bosch unit not working.

I guess you're not in the uk, as DTA ecus will do what you want easily, yiu cant run sequential injection as there's no cam sensor so the £500 s40 will suffice.

    im in northern ireland.... lol
  16. #16
the haltech ECU can run the original muli-point injection on the engine without the cam. i cant run sequential injection. as for ignition, it can run, wasted spark, distributor, twin distributor or else CDI without the cam sensor, if i had the sam sensore then i could run the ignition on Direct fire.

or just buy a DTA which will work straight off without any additional modules or component changes at all.
