cooling fan and tempreature warning light

  1. #1
    Hello
Issue first started when my W reg 1.1 got insanely hot. No warning lights came on. Nor did the fan.
The morning after I check the coolant, it was brown and sludgy!!
So, drained, refilled and bled. Then out of nowhere, when turn on the ignition the temp warning light is on, and the fan kicks in within seconds. I've bled the system many times and there's no air blocks. Turn off the car and the fan stays on for about five minutes.
Took it to a garage and they replaced the radiator and the thermostat, and told me the car is not overheating. It doesn't have a chance to even warm up and on a long journey the hood is not too hot to touch. So when I put the heating on, it's not very warm inside.
It's been like this since April. But now I feel it's time I tried something new and seek advice!
I'm going to try and change the temperature sensor. But I'm not sure which one it is.
    This is my engine:

Which one out of these two is it?

Have you had the engine compression and dye tested for head gasket failure?

    I haven't. No.
Being as its been like it since March/April I would have thought the Gasket would have been okay??

Also, just had it in for a full premium service. And they did not mention anything about that.
Not sure if that covers it.

But theres never been any loss in power at all.

Service won't touch that ,ask them to do the tests and explain what the problem is.

Forgive me if i'm wrong... but the brown sludge in your radiator is caused by the mixture of oil and water.

So if i was you, i'd firstly look at getting it tested for head gasket failure (as mentioned above)

    EDIT:

Also ... whats it like under your oil filler cap? any sludge on there?

not all ways could be caused by the car being run with no antifreeze in causing the cooling system to star to rust

    Could be
I'd still get it checked out though, just to be on the safe side.

i would to but also flush whole system back flush also and also take both pipes of the heater matrix and do the same with that

    Thanks for the advice.
Can't really afford to do much more at the moment.
But will certainly get it looked at as soon as I can. And will post back with the outcome.

A = Ecu temp, controls the fan
    B = Temp Gauge

I'm not sure which one actually puts the light on.

Where are you bleeding it from? You mention that you get no heat from the blowers, which could indicate an airlock or blocked heater matrix.

Are you bleeding it with the blowers on and temp dial to full?
