clutch problem.

right guys have a pretty major problem with my 106gti.

First off its the 1.1 chassis but with a gti conversion

basically, the clutch is slipping in 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

So, i took the gearbox off, checked the clutch which is almost brand new made in 2013 with loads of life left in it.

But i found a slight oily residue on the friction plate, and thought the input shaft seal had gone, so i replaced it, put it all back together and its still slipping. Driven it all week and it slips in the same gears as soon as i put my foot down.

Now, this uses one of those auto clutch cable adjusters. ive tried the reset method to no avail. Would a vts manual clutch cable fit this? and would it be a straight swap? I hope this is my problem, and id rather try a manual cable first. because i know if its not the cable, the input shaft bearings gone.

bin the auto adjust theyre fucking useless

see what happens..if still slipping its fucked

if youve found oil on it then id say youve found your prob..but the cable is the cheapest and easiest option.. so you know where to start

I reused the clutch yea, but i de-greased the lot so it was bone dry when i put it back together. The clutch is like 1 year old had no sign of wear at all.

Replaced the input shaft seal as well because the inside of the bell housing was wet with oil. which is why i thought, "ah thats why its slipping".

I checked the shaft to see if there was any play, but only in and out play which was very very very slight...

If its not the auto adjuster then its either new box time or the pressure plates some how broken.

Something worth a mention, the biting point can be high or low it changes now and again when im driving and the clutch only slips when ive been driving for 10-15 mins so when its warmish.

Yeah exactly the above, if it was still doing it with a new friction plate then that'd be odd but as it's the old one it's absorbed it. Box off again

Apparently you press the pedal to the floor, then slide yur foot off so it springs back. Engine off ofcourse. Something I found on the net dont know if it really works though.

just tried it, and the slack in the top of the pedal has gone a bit to be fair, but not all of it, but its better! the biting point isnt a mil off the bloody floor lol, nice one
