Hi all, Tried trawling through all the other posts and cant seem to find one that helps, I have a saxo vtr and was out driving, pulled up to load some stuff into boot and when I tried to set off there was no 1st or 2nd gear. It will let me put it into 1st and will let me select 2nd ( will only select second if I go straight from 1st) thought it might be the linkage that was gone but when I got under hood they are all connected, tried manually selecting 1st and 2nd from under hood with wife pressing clutch in and still no help, there is just no drive in either gear, is there anything anyone can think off before I go out and get a second hand gearbox for it. also noticed that there was a bit of oil near gearbox, not enough to see it dripping though.
1st and 2nd gear problems

#3Just because the linkages are connected, doesn't mean they're not worn.
Would be very odd for an internal fault to cause 1st and 2nd to be faulty. The internal selectors are grouped like this: R&1 2&3 4&5
Especially if this is a sudden fault. Check the rubber ball on the gear selector, it's a bellcrank. It's what the main linkage from the base of the gearknob goes to. -
#4as above. A gearbox gets increasingly noisy when on its way out, you don't get a gear selection problem all of a sudden. Is the gear stick wobbly much?
