    Hello

I got my car back from service garage told me to be aware of A BIT of water in my oil, so a week on i thought oh ill check the coolant, cap comes off WOW chocolate milkshake with white bubbles, i dont use the car as im still having lessons ive passed my theory and nearly test ready i like this little saxo its very clean the garage said its a good little runner they obviously didnt check the coolant, when my dad picked the car up he said it will cost me £300 to repair which i said great ill start saving and get it done ready for when i pass, i rang the garage today to enquire its suddenly £450 and he said oh just use k seal youl be fine IDIOT! i want a repair not a temp fix why cant mechanics just be honest im not paying £450 for a job i was previously quoted £300 for i have been on autobutler to see what quotes i get, i really want it doing in about 3 weeks thats when ill have the money. Im not confident messing with it myself even with a manual.

Anyone know any garages in manchester that are cheap and honest.

    thanks

Wrong section to post in really but your head gasket has gone. £300 sounded to good to be true, for a 1.1 Saxo most of them just get scrapped when a head gasket goes as the labour costs are usually more than the car is worth.

If you have the time and patience you could always do it yourself.

wow you need to use a full stop once in a while.

You can pick up any saxo engine for under £100 these days. A vtr 1.6 engine drops straight in and looks identical to your 1.1 engine

took it to another garage, they say it isnt my head gasket he says hes not sure how its got oil in it unless someone poured it in, he is flushing it for me and filling it with detergent i have to run it for a week and take it back for a refill.

    He's filling it with detergent!?!

Honestly, get somewhere decent. A £450 quote for a 1.1 head gasket simply means they don't want the work.

Yeah a radiator flush because he cant find anywhere where the oil might have got in. He has done tests and they say the gasket is fine.

It'll probably be a crack in the headgasket at the oil/water channel. Steel seal is your friend

Yes. A lot of people think it's only temporary but steel seal is a permanent fix and if it doesn't work, you get your money back anyway, so nothing to lose really!

    Hey guys,

Got my car back it has a radiator cleaner in it and i have to go back tomorrow to get it drained and filled with water/collant. The mechanic told me not to go pointing fingers but it seems the oil in the radiator was a stitch up as he said something about a bleed point and it was clear of oil not sure what that is. I will have it flushed of cleaner tomorrow and filled with collant and water. Either that or a really hard to detect Head Gasket fault as he has done tests on the car and found nothing that points toward the head.

    Will keep you updated

It sure doesn't but i can't jump into conclusions.

It it has gone why not have a go at doing the gasket yourself? not like you need it on the road ASAP if you haven't passed yet, easy enough job on a 1.1 if you are handy with the spanners..

Sorry ignore this, just read it again my bad!

It just might be that the last owner topped up the cooling system with oil, if so I'd be worried about what other fool things they've done to the car.

Saxo engines do have a weak point between the oil and water galleries where oil can get into the water. It doesn't usually affect the combustion chambers so if the oil reappears steel seal or k-seal is the way to go.

Hey Stevo thanks for the reply i tried that earlier my pliers were too small LOL, i'll have to go buy a pair. How would i remove the pipe ? Do i just pull the clip together with pliers in order to remove it. Then do the same to re attach it?

Yeah just squeeze the two halves of the hose clip together then slide it down the hose out of your way then wiggle the pipe off

How does the car run and how does it react when at full temp? Also are you noticing any fluid loss and/or white smoke/steam coming from the exhaust?

Glad its fine. The fan will kick in when you're in traffic to stop it over heating lol that's what it ment to do lol.

What i don't understand is why would he tell you it'll be fine if you add a sealer to if he "sabotaged" it? Surely he would just tell you it needed a head gasket there and then? Having said that hes a absolute cockend if he tried to fuck you over lol.
