Rust

   To be honest, that doesn't look to bad. Just looks like surface rust mainly.
   Make sure you give everywhere a good Tap and as much as you might not want too, you need to push through any rust that's gone all the way through.
   Just sand all the rust right back, then use rust killer, then some red oxide primer and then paint I'd say.
   Doesn't look too bad with yours though, here's what mine was like!

   thats sod all op, bit of tickling with sandpaper and sharp prodding with a screwdriver to knock off the loose stuff, bit of color match, and you'll be laughing, lucky save that one^

   To be honest I'm interested in finding out how to stop it coming back I want to sort it now and do it properly.

   I cut the big bits of rust out, sanded back the paint and rust everywhere, used rust killer then sanded back further. I then welded in metal plates underneath and then smoothed it over with filler on the top in the bay so it looks smooth, then used red oxide primer then sprayed.

   How old this car? I maybe should change my thread Mine seems to be in early stages but I want rid of it, it looks terrible.

   It's 2001 (51). I think with all the problems I've had, this car has definitely been abused before I owned it! The rust you have is rust that has taken. 12+ years to get there, so just sand it back so there is no rust left and it's bare metal, then spray it! You'll have to wait another 12 years for the rust if you do it properly.

    Ye, the car is 2002 (51) iv owned the car since it was 3 years old the rust on your car seemed extreme! Should I grind back the rust with those disks also anything recommended to put on it before spraying and what primer Ect?

    Right wire brush on an electric drill,this will tell you how bad the rust is and whether any welding needs doing.after this go on ebay and get some phospheric acid which you paint on.nasty stuff so wear goggles etc.then prime and paint in the normal way.
