Car possibly misfiring? New ignition leads?

  1. #1
    Hi all,

    So I recently fixed a problem where my car wouldn't start - turns out my battery needed replacing.

    Now I got a problem with a possible "misfire".
    When I'm driving, I can feel the car pulling back and forward every now and again, not sure why this is?

    I've spoken to some other saxo owners and they said it's the ignition lead?

    Saxo with 32k miles causing me never ending problems

    Early saxo's have leads later ones don't,so check 1st before buying.

    Get your self a scan tool autel ms309 is a very cheap scanner £12 on ebay or an elm 327 wireless adapers are good less than£10 with the tourque app which is less than a set of leads dont spend money changing random parts.

    Also check the battery cables,terminals and earth connections.

    Just a quick update;

    Engine light has now come on

    Taking car into garage on Wednesday as this is becoming a massive problem.

    Each time I went into gear it was just nudging back and forwards, anyone would of thought I'd never driven a car before!

    Just hope it won't be too expensive to fix

    Does anyone know how much it would cost to fix the following at a garage;

    Squeaky clutch (possibly needs some lube)
    car jumping back and forwards
    Engine light on
    Sometimes idling weirdly between 1000 - 2000 revs

    Just need a rough estimate so I am prepared for the cost

    Thanks all and sorry for the double post - can't edit previous post.

    It is impossible to estimate a cost without knowing what faults are.
    Most garages will charge between £30 -£50 just for a diagnostic test is it the cluctch pedal squeaking or the clutch fork on the gearbox?
    The eractic idle and the management light and the other issue will need to be investigated by doing a diagnostic check.

    Once a diagnostic check has established what the problem is the more than likely one or more of the components will be faulty so also add the cost of a new part+fitting+diagnostic check at least £100 depends on the fault or faults.

    I took my car to the garage because the engine light come on.

    They said that the fuel was too rich? So they cleaned some cylinder and a sensor and said it's fine.

    They also done an emissions test which come back perfectly fine.

    Costing £89
