Tracking

  1. #1
Had a part worn fitted last Friday, lad asked if I wanted my tracking checked while I'm there so I said sure.
Haven't really driven since then, and I've noticed the tracking is now way off (it was fine before, but been as he asked I just agreed).
The car also pulls strong to the left when I let go of the wheel. Am I in the right mind to go back down and give them shit? Or am I fucked because one tyre was changed/I agreed to check the tracking.

FYI there is nothing on the receipt to say I paid for tracking, and didn't get charged...yet my steering is now fucked.

I'd go down but chances are they'll mug you off.

That's what I'm afraid of, but having family in trading standards has it's good points.

Haven't checked the pressure no mate, haven't been driving it too much for me to go and test it. As for the tracking, I have no idea what they did. Just came back out to fetch me saying 'All done'.

Happened to me (as in steering going 30 degrees right and car driving sideways) after car went through the MOT and had my steering rack changed. I came back, the garage owner's kid who did it was like "uh you must hav' it a pothul' or summat", so I gave them shit.

Difference is, I had a receipt + MOT to back me up, plus a counter check from ATS. Unfortunately that wasn't the end of story. They did the tracking again, and the car came back with the steering still off by a margin, and a 30 inch screwdriver scratch on the roof. Subsequently lost 7 regular customers + had a few surprises coming their way.

I'd rather drive on budgets than go to one of those part worn places, usually full of cowboys.

The lad probaly had a go at the alignment and could not undo one of the track rod ends so left the job half done hence no charge.
I always check my track rods arn't seized before taking the car for a wheel alignment as some places are full of excuses.

    Yikes, that's appalling.
Main concern was from my balljoint failing since God knows when, the inner wheel N/S side was completely bald so I needed a tyre pronto, and I'm ridiculously short on 'dough' atm.
Debating going down tomorrow with a rather beefy friend, and if they play nice I'll sit inside and watch them do the work.

By surprises you mean you threatened them with something, they expected it and you are talking shit so they were surprised when it never materialised.

All hail Manu, the only man to have every done everything at least once.

Brat swings, and misses again. 23 years of driving says I have more experience than you.

:edit: just read your derv thread, seems like taking a mondeo stereo out is too complicated for you. Hell you can't even figure out your own MPG, so keep your trolling to yourself puh-lease...

No threats involved, only applying my rights like it said on the MOT sheet. As in don't piss on my back and tell me it's raining. I don't expect to bring a perfectly maintained car that drives nice and straight, only to pay £200 to get it back and it drives sideways, then being told off by some spotty apprentice while the boss is on holiday. Dealt with by the book, VOSA loved the story, and I got my money back.

Oh look out, Ian Huntley has more experience of life than I do also, does not mean I would take a thing he says for fact. But hey, as long as you say it happened ... it happened.

Yeah mate, bring your car over and I'll get your stereo out for you.

Good luck with that, you struggle with reality never mind something practical.

Went down to the Garage today and spoke to a bloke who was beyond friendly, really nice guy. Said they haven't got any 15's left in stock, but they're in Saturday so I'll get one fitted for free and they'll check my tracking

Good result then, hopefully they will sort your issue either way
