Few questions

    Hello,

Bought my first car yesterday (Saxo 1.1 200 reg). However there are a few issues which I hope someone can help me with.

    1) This is the main problem. The washer system doesn't seem to work. When it arrived the washer fluid container was empty, so I topped it up but still nothing. It doesn't look like there are any leaks either. So what can I do?

    2) Only one reversing light lights up, should there be 2?

    3) It came with 2 keys. Both keys unlock all the doors (3 doors), however after a while one of the keys now only unlocks/locks the boot and passenger door but not the driver door. And the key still works with the engine. Why is this?

    4) If I want a new key made, can I go to any key cutter or not? I read somewhere that the car has an immobiliser fitted and the keys have something in the tip which disables it, so if I take it to a key cutter would they give me a key with that in as well?

    Thanks.

    1. Check fuses and washer pump.

    2. On mine there is only 1 reversing light, as long as it is on the outside of the car (drivers side) your be fine, same with rear fog lights.

    3. I would of said a worn lock or key but then it would effect other doors and ignition aswell so not sure.

    4. The key has a transponder chip built in so the chip will need to be changed to a new key but I can't remember if they're easily removed from the key, if not a new chip needs to be programmed to the new key so it will be somewhere that deals with the programming aswell, a few lock smiths are capable of doing it now so will be easily done.

    Hope that helps

Thanks very much. I'll check all that and let you know

If you do have 2 lenses for reverse lights though, it can be worth checking bulbs. Mine recently went through the MOT with just the one bulb but not sure if that was just the garage being nice or if it is a normal thing. Should of also asked if you can hear the washer pump when you pull the stalk? If not, definitely check fuses followed by pump, if u can hear it working then check pipes for blockages.

Can you hear the washer pump when you active it?
    Does the rear one work?

There is a white reflector on both sides, one lights up the other doesn't. I think a brake light is out anyway so when I take the light cover off I'll check for a spare socket.

And I should have mentioned that I can't hear the pump at all.

No I can't hear the pump. And no, both the front and rear one doesn't work.

Personally I'd put a reverse light in both sides just to be on the safe side, as I said I may have been lucky on my mot recently but even now I still only have 1 on the drivers side.

As for the washer pump, seeing as it's not working I'd check fuses 1st, if those look fine the I'd remove the washer pump and test that with a direct feed as it will help to rule out any problems at the stalk at the same time

Should have mentioned, that the screen wash level seems to have gone down, but there are no leakages on the floor.

If I remember right, the screenwash bottle is inside the wing so any leaks from around the pump could run along the body work rather than dripping straight to the ground

Reversing lights are not required for the mot, they're just optional extras really.

I've looked at the body work and can't see any leakages. Do this mean there is a problem with the pump?
