What a Dipstick.

As you may have already guessed, while checking the oil level I snapped the end of the dipstick off. Is there a replacement that doesn't have that stupid bit of plastic?

    Thanks

    Which end has broken off?

The dippy end, so it's wallowing around in the sump somewhere

Pull the sump off and recover the broken bit before it snaps the oil pump drive chain.
The plastic on the stick goes brittle with age and the end distorts and catches on the bottom of the dipstick tube.
I have seen a metal one but can't be sure if it was oem or not a brand new plastic replacment should be ok if removed carefully for inspection.

Forgive me for being a mechanical biff, if I take the sump off then I'm going to dump my oil all over the floor, correct? So guessing I'll need to drain it first, how many litres will I need to buy to fill it up? And what's the best oil to use for VTR s?

Get a bucket at the ready mate and you'll have to take it to a place that can dispose of it. Probably less hassle and not that much more expensive to take it to a garage that has a ramp and can dispose of the oil for you.
