engine high pitched whine between 5k - 7k

   I bought a vtr a few month ago, it seems totally standard, I do mainly motorway miles and the car has 103000 on the clock, I've fully serviced it and drive at a steady 80 most of the time and the car runs a treat. When I get a little bored and open it up in every gear between 5 and 7k revs I get a high pitched whine, it sounds like a supercharger! Is this just induction noise or something a bit more sinister? Thanks for your help.

   I wouldn't imagen so? Everything looks standard in the engine bay but I'm no mechanic, it is lightning quick for a 1.6 mind

   If it's lightning quick it must have a charger, or it would be painfully slow

   Yeah plenty of oil I fully serviced it 1000 or so miles ago.

    Anyway - check the alternator etc.. idler/tensior/cambelt whining? gearbox?
